During the extraction of travertine stone used to build the bridge, a hot mineral spring was discovered at the site of today\u2019s spa. In 1575, two thermal baths were constructed: Kadija\u2019s Bath (Lower Bath) and Sokollu\u2019s Bath (Upper Bath). Their therapeutic properties derive from radioactivity, primarily radon and its decay products. Visegrad Spa ranks first in Bosnia and Herzegovina and second in the former Yugoslavia for water radioactivity. The level of radiation is therapeutically optimal, without risks of accumulation or adverse effects.
