During the reign of Sultan Mahmud I (1730-1754), a fortress was built on the island in 1747 and inside it a mosque. The spot of the City (Sultan Ahmed&#8217;s) mosque with its harem and tombstones in Prijedor was declared a national monument in October 2008.
