Culture
Building and gallery “Old Clock”
The building known as “Old Clock” was built in 1928 by Toso Stavric, founder of the wealthiest family in Bosanski Samac and vicinity.
His family was a symbol of Samac in a way, as Toso himself was the greatest builder in Samac history. In 1928 he tore down every old store in town and built a new, bigger one on a corner in the very town center. There was a convenience store on the ground floor, and a big apartment upstairs. He placed a large clock on the top of that house in 1929 which measured time for the town.
The lights on the clock are lit at night, and clock’s ticking can be heard from afar, even in Slavonski Samac.
After his death, the building was left to Church and today it belongs to Eparchy of Zvornik and Tuzla.
In 2021, the ground floor with its business premises was given to PU Cultural Center for use. There is a gallery there now where various exhibitions, recitals, lectures and literary events are held.
