Welcome to Celinac

Celinac and its surrounding areas have been a thriving hub of human life since ancient times, thanks to its favorable natural conditions. This is evidenced by the many archaeological discoveries found here.

Nestled in the valley of the Vrbanja River, the municipal center is surrounded by a predominantly hilly and mountainous landscape. The municipality is strategically located along major highways and railways, serving as a vital connection for the entire region.

Celinac is blessed with abundant natural resources and a rich cultural heritage. Its unique cultural identity is reflected in the numerous carved figures, letters, and crosses found on local tombstones.

Culture

The municipality of Celinac, with its rich Illyrian heritage, is home to around ten ancient hillforts. Zmajevac, located ten kilometers from Banja Luka, is particularly noteworthy for its strategic position above the Vrbas River and its well-preserved ruins. Today, the cultural life of Celinac is centered around the Public Institution Center for Culture, Education, and Information, which hosts a variety of events throughout the year.

Nature

The municipality of Celinac is extremely rich in river courses. The greatest treasure is the Vrbanja River, as well as the Jošavka, Ukrina, Turjanica, and Švraka rivers. In addition to its river courses, the municipality of Celinac is one of the leading regions in plantation forestry. Forests cover approximately 53% of the total area of the municipality of Celinac.

Gastro

Situated in the Krajina region, this area boasts a rich culinary heritage, sharing many specialties with neighboring regions. The abundant rivers and nearby forests provide the perfect environment for fish and game dishes.

The Jungić winery, a local treasure, has cultivated vineyards on the slopes of Šikar. Here, they produce a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Frankovka for red wine lovers, and Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Rhine Riesling for those who prefer white.

Misarica Cave

his speleological site is exceptional due to the formation of large colonies of bats during the summer months. These colonies are among the largest in the Balkans and are composed of two species. It is imperative to protect the cave to preserve its significance for these special and highly beneficial animal species.

Jungić Winery

Born from a blend of defiance and a deep-rooted love for wine, Jungić Winery has pioneered modern viticulture in a region ideally suited for grape cultivation. With over 18,000 vines of premium varieties thriving on the 6-hectare Markovac slopes, the winery produces both red wines, named ŠIKAR after the vineyard’s location, and white wines, named BALATIN after a nearby stream. The tasting room and restaurant, overlooking the picturesque vineyards, offer visitors a chance to savor their wines while immersing themselves in the region’s natural beauty.
